Welke werkwoordregel hoort erbij?
Revision: categories and verbs with a ball
Learning goal: "I can correctly write the categories and verbs I still find difficult."
How you coach: the tense of the verb
Today your child practised with a ball: the teacher says a sentence and throws the ball. Whoever catches it says the tense of the sentence; another child changes the tense and says the verb rule. Then there was a dictation with a sentence.
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Say the sentence. Your child names the verb and says which tense the sentence is in: present, past or perfect tense.AskWhich verb is it? Which tense is the sentence in?
- Your child changes the tense and says the verb rule. Present tense: Persoonsvorm in de tegenwoordige tijd: ik-vorm+t, behalve bij ik en als jij of je erachter staat. (Finite verb in the present tense: the ‘I’ form + t, except with ik and when jij or je comes after it.)AskWhat is the other tense? Which verb rule goes with it?
- Listen to the dictation word and say it back. Put your finger on the category and think of the rule.AskWhich category is in it? What is the rule?
- Write the word down. A samenstelling (compound word)? Put a star in front of it.AskIs it a compound word?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Ball game: you say a sentence and throw a soft ball. Your child names the tense, changes the tense and says the verb rule: ‘De vogel zong in de boom.’ · ‘Wij lopen naar school.’Ask: which verb rule goes with this sentence?1: zong (past tense): de vogel zingt – de vogel heeft gezongen · lopen (present tense): wij liepen – wij zijn gelopen
- Read each word aloud once; your child says it back and writes it down: de panda’s · het kilootje · de knieën.Ask: which category do you recognise? What is the rule?2: de panda’s: apostrof-s-meervoud · het kilootje: verkleinwoord with -ootje · de knieën: tremawoord, dots on the e
- Read aloud: ‘De kleine kat springt op de warme bank.’ Your child writes the word class under each word: lw (article), bnw (adjective), znw (noun), ww (verb) or vz (preposition).Ask: which word says something about the cat?3: De (lw) kleine (bnw) kat (znw) springt (ww) op (vz) de (lw) warme (bnw) bank (znw)
- Your child explains to you a category they now know well: the rule and a word that goes with it.Ask: how do you know it is right?4: own explanation
How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- For the past tense of a strong verb your child says: ‘Ik denk aan de categoriekaart.’ (I think of the category card.) Let your child work out the form first.
- Check the work carefully together: careful checking is worth just as much as a good dictation.
Was deze kaart nuttig? Was this card useful?
