VraagWelke categorie zit erin? Wat is de regel?
  3. Schrijf het woord op. Een samenstelling krijgt een sterretje ervoor.
VraagIs het een samenstelling? Uit welke woorden bestaat het?
  4. Een werkwoord? Zet het in de tegenwoordige tijd en noem de werkwoordregel: Persoonsvorm in de tegenwoordige tijd: ik-vorm+t, behalve bij ik en als jij of je erachter staat.
VraagWat is de ik-vorm? Welke regel hoort erbij?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

Revision: categories and verbs

Year group 6Spelling · Block 3, week 4 · lesson 110 min, no screens

Learning goal: "I can correctly write the categories and verbs I still find difficult."

How you coach: category and rule, and the verb rule

Week 4 is the revision week of block 3: the teacher practises again what does not come automatically yet. Your child put verbs from the past tense into the present tense and said the werkwoordregel (verb rule). Your child did the dictation with the category card.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Listen to the word and say it back.
AskWhich word did you hear? Say it again.
  2. Say the category (or categories) in the word and the rule that goes with it, using letter sounds (the sound, not the name of the letter).
AskWhich category is in it? What is the rule?
  3. Write the word down. A samenstelling (compound word) gets a star in front of it.
AskIs it a compound word? Which words is it made of?
  4. A verb? Put it in the present tense and say the verb rule: Persoonsvorm in de tegenwoordige tijd: ik-vorm+t, behalve bij ik en als jij of je erachter staat. (Finite verb in the present tense: the ‘I’ form + t, except with ik and when jij or je comes after it.)
AskWhat is the ik-vorm (the ‘I’ form)? Which rule goes with it?

Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.

Practise together at the table

  1. Put into the present tense and say the verb rule: ‘De bakker bakte een taart.’ · ‘Opa harkte de tuin.’ · ‘Zij schilderde een vaas.’Ask: what is the ik-vorm? Which rule goes with hij or zij?
  2. Read each word aloud once; your child says it back, writes it down and says the category and the rule: de koala’s · de zwaluwstaart · technisch.Ask: which categories are in it? Is it a compound word?
  3. Verb rows: you say the verb (bakken · duwen · kloppen), your child writes ik … · hij … · … jij?Ask: what is the ik-vorm? Where does a t go?
  4. Choose a category that is still difficult, say the rule and think of three words for it.Ask: how do you check the word?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • Ask your child: which category did you still find difficult? What is the rule? Practise that one the most.
  • A word not working? Show it once, let your child say it back, then write it alone.
