Uw kind deed vandaag een categorie-race: woordkaartjes ophalen, onthouden en het woord in de goede kolom schrijven: t(s)ie, cola, isch, b-rijtje, -eren/-elen/-enen, +te/+ste, klankgroepen of cent. Bij elk woord fluistert uw kind de regel.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Haal een woord op, lees het en prent het in. Loop terug en zeg het woord (niet spellen).

  1. Race in huis: maak een blad met de 8 kolommen. Lees één voor één voor: de attractie · de code · dramatisch · regenen · de dikste · de kabels · het centrum. Uw kind zet elk woord in de goede kolom en zegt de regel.Vraag: wat hoor je aan het eind? Welke kolom hoort erbij?
  2. Het b-rijtje: uw kind noemt een woord uit het b-rijtje, schrijft het in de kolom b-rijtje en maakt het langer.Vraag: welke klank hoor je als je het langer maakt?
  3. U noemt een categorie; uw kind noemt de regel en een woord erbij. Doe zo alle acht de categorieën.Vraag: hoe controleer je het woord?

Tip van de juf

  • Een woord kan in meer dan één kolom passen, zoals een woord met een c én tie. Goed is elke kolom waarbij uw kind de juiste regel zegt.
  • Wie in de race vaak fout ging in één categorie, oefent die extra. De juf kijkt daar ook naar.

How you coach: the school’s category race

Today your child did a category race: fetching word cards, remembering them and writing the word in the right column: t(s)ie, cola, isch, b-rijtje, -eren/-elen/-enen, +te/+ste, klankgroepen (sound groups) or cent. With every word your child whispers the rule.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Fetch a word, read it and memorise it. Walk back and say the word (no spelling).

  2. Which category is it? Put the word in the right column: t(s)ie · cola · isch · b-rijtje · -eren/-elen/-enen · +te/+ste · klankgroepen · cent.

  3. Whisper the rule as well, for example: T(s)ie-woord. Ik schrijf tie. Or: Isch-woord. Ik schrijf isch.

Practise together at the table

  1. Race at home: make a sheet with the 8 columns. Read aloud one by one: de attractie · de code · dramatisch · regenen · de dikste · de kabels · het centrum. Your child puts each word in the right column and says the rule.Ask: what do you hear at the end? Which column goes with it?
  2. The b list: your child names a word from the b list, writes it in the b-rijtje column and makes it longer.Ask: which sound do you hear when you make it longer?
  3. You name a category; your child says the rule and a word for it. Do this for all eight categories.Ask: how do you check the word?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • A word can fit in more than one column, such as a word with a c and tie. Any column is right if your child says the correct rule.
  • If your child often made mistakes in one category during the race, practise that one more. The teacher looks at this too.
