Of: Colawoord.
· traditie: Kilowoord. Ik schrijf i. T(s)ie-woord. Ik schrijf tie. · camera: Colawoord. Ik schrijf c. · tractor: Colawoord.
Vraag: welke categorie(ën) zitten erin?3: infectie: Colawoord. Ik schrijf c. T(s)ie-woord. Ik schrijf tie. · cabine: Colawoord. Ik schrijf c. Kilowoord. Ik schrijf i.
T(s)ie word, cola word and -eren, -elen, -enen
Learning goal: "I can correctly write t(s)ie words, cola words and words with -eren/-elen/-enen."
How you coach: category, rule and the school’s movement dictation
Today your child revised the t(s)ie-woord (ends in /sie/, as in informatie), the colawoord (cola word: a c that sounds like a k) and words with -eren, -elen or -enen (e twice). In class your child did a beweegdictee (movement dictation).
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Say the word back and name the category and the rule: T(s)ie-woord. Ik schrijf tie. (I write tie.) Or: Colawoord. Ik schrijf c. (I write c.) Or: Woord met /urun/. Ik schrijf twee keer e. (I write e twice.)AskWhich category is this word? What is the rule?
- What do you hear at the end: /urun/, /ulun/ or /unun/? With all three you write e twice.AskWhich sound do you hear at the end? What do you write then?
- More categories in the word? Go from left to right. Take your time: some words have four.AskWhich categories are in it? What is the rule for each?
- Movement dictation: the runner reads the word, memorises it and then says it (no spelling). The writer writes it down with the category above it. Swap after each word.AskHow do you remember the word? Which category do you write above it?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.

How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- Never let your child spell the word: then they start saying letter names. Say the sounds.
- Talk in category names and rules, not in numbers, as the teacher does.
