Uw kind leerde vandaag een beelddiagram aflezen: een diagram met plaatjes. Eerst leest het de legenda: hoeveel is één plaatje waard? Is 1 plaatje 10 vogels en staan er 3 en een half plaatje, dan zijn dat 3 × 10 + 5 = 35 vogels.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Lees eerst de legenda: hoeveel is één plaatje waard?
    VraagWat staat er in de legenda? Hoeveel is één plaatje waard?
  2. Zoek de rij die je nodig hebt en tel de hele plaatjes.

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. In een beelddiagram is 1 plaatje = 10 fietsen. Er staan 7 en een half plaatje. Hoeveel fietsen zijn dat?Vraag: hoeveel hele plaatjes zijn het? Wat is een half plaatje waard?
  2. In een beelddiagram is 1 plaatje = 50 bezoekers. Er staan 2 en een half plaatje. Hoeveel bezoekers zijn dat?Vraag: wat staat er in de legenda?
  3. 10 kinderen kozen pizza, 6 pasta en 12 friet. Teken een beelddiagram met 1 plaatje = 4 kinderen. Hoeveel plaatjes teken je bij elk gerecht?Vraag: hoeveel kinderen is een half plaatje?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: 1 plaatje = 20 stuks fruit. Bij appels staan 6 en een half plaatje, bij peren 4. Hoeveel appels meer dan peren?Vraag: reken je eerst elke rij om naar een getal?

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Twee fouten van vandaag: plaatjes tellen zonder de legenda te lezen, en een half plaatje altijd als 5 tellen. Een half plaatje is de helft van de legenda: bij 20 is dat 10, bij 4 is dat 2.
  • Laat uw kind eerst elke rij omrekenen naar een getal en dan pas rekenen (meer of minder, samen).
  • Bij verhaaltjes gebruikt de klas altijd het 5-stappenplan: lees 2 keer · wat weet ik, wat is de vraag? · schrijf de som op · reken uit · controleer + eenheid. Hier is 'wat weet ik?' de legenda.
Antwoorden voor de ouder: 1: 75 fietsen · 2: 125 bezoekers · 3: pizza 2 en een half, pasta 1 en een half, friet 3 plaatjes, met de legenda 1 plaatje = 4 kinderen · 4: appels 130, peren 80, dus 50 meer.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Een beelddiagram aflezen'

Today your child learned to read a pictogram (beelddiagram): a chart with pictures. First your child reads the key (legenda): how much is one picture worth? If 1 picture is 10 birds and there are 3 and a half pictures, that is 3 × 10 + 5 = 35 birds.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. First read the key: how much is one picture worth?

  2. Find the row you need and count the whole pictures.
    AskWhich row are you looking for? How many whole pictures are there?
  3. Work it out: number of whole pictures times the value of one picture.

  1. In a pictogram, 1 picture = 10 bikes. There are 7 and a half pictures. How many bikes is that?Ask: how many whole pictures are there? What is half a picture worth?
  2. In a pictogram, 1 picture = 50 visitors. There are 2 and a half pictures. How many visitors is that?Ask: what does the key say?
  3. 10 children chose pizza, 6 pasta and 12 chips. Draw a pictogram with 1 picture = 4 children. How many pictures do you draw for each dish?Ask: how many children is half a picture?
  4. From daily life: 1 picture = 20 pieces of fruit. For apples there are 6 and a half pictures, for pears 4. How many more apples than pears?Ask: do you first convert each row into a number?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • Two typical mistakes: counting pictures without reading the key, and always counting half a picture as 5. Half a picture is half of the key: with 20 that is 10, with 4 that is 2.
  • Let your child first convert each row into a number and only then calculate (more or less, together).
  • For story sums the class always uses the 5-step plan (5-stappenplan): read it 2 times · what do I know, what is the question? · write down the sum · work it out · check + unit. Here 'what do I know?' is the key (legenda).
