Aftrekken met een tekort: het min-getal

Uw kind leerde vandaag wat je doet als je bij het aftrekken tekort komt. Bij 782 − 368 is 2 − 8 niet mogelijk: je komt 6 tekort. Dat schrijf je op als min-getal (−6) en bij stap 5 haal je het eraf: 400 + 20 = 420, en 420 − 6 = 414. Niets lenen, niets onthouden.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Zet de getallen recht onder elkaar: H onder H, T onder T, E onder E.

  2. Trek de honderdtallen af.

  3. 765 − 38 = ...Vraag: onder welke cijfers komt de 38? Kom je tekort bij de eenheden?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: een zaal heeft 482 stoelen. Er zijn er 267 bezet. Hoeveel stoelen zijn er nog vrij?Vraag: wat is de som? Schat eerst.

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout: 'dat kan niet, dus ik doe 8 − 2'. Dan krijg je 426 in plaats van 414. Bovenaan staat het getal waar je vanaf haalt: dat draai je nooit om. De klas zegt: 'Boven min onder. Kom je tekort? Min-getal!'
  • Laat uw kind het min-getal echt opschrijven ('laat me je min-getal zien'). Wie het tekort in het hoofd houdt, gaat later de mist in.
  • Bij verhaaltjes gebruikt de klas altijd het 5-stappenplan: lees 2 keer · wat weet ik, wat is de vraag? · schrijf de som op · reken uit · controleer + eenheid. Hier is 'reken uit' het kolomsgewijs aftrekken met het min-getal.

Subtracting when you are short: the min-getal

How you coach: the school's plan 'Kolomsgewijs subtracting up to 1000', now with being short

Today your child learned what to do when you are short (tekort) while subtracting. In 782 − 368, 2 − 8 is not possible: you are 6 short. You write that down as a min-getal (minus number, −6) and at step 5 you take it off: 400 + 20 = 420, and 420 − 6 = 414. No borrowing, no carrying.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Put the numbers exactly under each other: H under H, T under T, E under E (hundreds, tens, ones).

  2. Subtract the hundreds.
    AskWhich hundreds do you take away from each other? What is the part result?
  3. Subtract the tens.

  4. Subtract the ones. Are you short? Write what you are short as a min-getal (minus number): 2 − 8 → 6 short → −6.

  5. Add up the part results. At step 5 you take a min-getal off.

  6. Check: round to the nearest hundred and estimate.

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • The mistake: 'that is not possible, so I do 8 − 2'. Then you get 426 instead of 414. At the top is the number you take away from: you never swap that round. The class says: 'Boven min onder. Kom je tekort? Min-getal!' (Top minus bottom. Short? Minus number!)
  • Let your child really write down the min-getal ('show me your min-getal'). Keeping the shortage in your head goes wrong later.
  • For story sums the class always uses the 5-step plan (5-stappenplan): read it 2 times · what do I know, what is the question? · write down the sum · work it out · check + unit. Here 'work it out' is kolomsgewijs subtracting with the min-getal.
