Uw kind leerde vandaag de litermaten in elkaar omrekenen met het schema l · dl · cl · ml. Elke sprong is × 10 of : 10, dus 1 l = 10 dl = 100 cl = 1000 ml. Zo kun je pakken, flesjes en blikjes met een verschillende maat toch vergelijken.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Schrijf het schema op: l · dl · cl · ml.
    VraagKun je het schema opschrijven? Welke maat is de grootste?
  2. Zet je vinger op de maat die je hebt. Tel de sprongen naar de maat die je zoekt.
    VraagWelke maat heb je en welke zoek je? Hoeveel sprongen zijn dat?
  3. Naar rechts (kleinere maat): × 10 per sprong. Naar links (grotere maat): : 10 per sprong.
    VraagGa je naar rechts of naar links? Dus × 10 of : 10, en hoeveel keer?
  4. Controleer: kleinere maat → groter getal. Grotere maat → kleiner getal.
    VraagKrijg je een groter of een kleiner getal? Klopt dat met de maat?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. 9 dl = ... clVraag: hoeveel sprongen is dat, en naar welke kant?
  2. 5 l = ... mlVraag: welke maten liggen er tussen l en ml? Hoeveel sprongen maak je?
  3. Wat is meer: 4 dl of 450 ml?Vraag: kun je ze vergelijken zolang de maten verschillen? Zet ze eerst in dezelfde maat.
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: een pak sap van 1 l. Je schenkt glazen van 25 cl in. Hoeveel glazen kun je helemaal vol schenken?Vraag: hoeveel cl zit er in het hele pak? Welke som hoort daarbij?

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Tel álle sprongen. Van l naar ml zijn het drie sprongen, dus × 1000: 2 l is 2000 ml, niet 200 ml. Laat uw kind met de vinger over het schema springen.
  • Getallen vergelijken zonder op de maat te letten gaat mis: bij 3 dl en 250 ml lijkt 250 groter, maar 3 dl = 300 ml. Zet bij vergelijken eerst alles in dezelfde maat, bijvoorbeeld ml.
  • Bij verhaaltjes gebruikt de klas altijd het 5-stappenplan: lees 2 keer · wat weet ik, wat is de vraag? · schrijf de som op · reken uit · controleer + eenheid. Hier is 'reken uit' het omrekenen met de vier stappen hierboven.
Antwoorden voor de ouder: 1: 90 cl · 2: 5000 ml · 3: 450 ml is meer (4 dl = 400 ml) · 4: 1 l = 100 cl, 100 : 25 = 4 glazen.

Converting litre measures: l, dl, cl and ml

How you coach: the school's plan 'Converting litre measures'

Today your child learned to convert litre measures with the chart l · dl · cl · ml (litre, decilitre, centilitre, millilitre). Each jump is × 10 or : 10 (: means 'divided by'), so 1 l = 10 dl = 100 cl = 1000 ml. That way you can compare cartons, bottles and cans with different measures.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Write down the chart: l · dl · cl · ml.
    AskCan you write down the chart? Which measure is the biggest?
  2. Put your finger on the measure you have. Count the jumps to the measure you are looking for.
    AskWhich measure do you have and which are you looking for? How many jumps is that?
  3. To the right (smaller measure): × 10 per jump. To the left (bigger measure): : 10 per jump.
    AskAre you going to the right or to the left? So × 10 or : 10, and how many times?
  4. Check: smaller measure → bigger number. Bigger measure → smaller number.
    AskDo you get a bigger or a smaller number? Does that fit the measure?

Practise together at the table

  1. 9 dl = ... clAsk: how many jumps is that, and which way?
  2. 5 l = ... mlAsk: which measures are between l and ml? How many jumps do you make?
  3. Which is more: 4 dl or 450 ml?Ask: can you compare them while the measures are different? Put them in the same measure first.
  4. From daily life: a carton of juice of 1 l. You pour glasses of 25 cl. How many glasses can you fill completely?Ask: how many cl is in the whole carton? Which sum goes with that?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • Count all the jumps. From l to ml is three jumps, so × 1000: 2 l is 2000 ml, not 200 ml. Let your child jump over the chart with a finger.
  • Comparing numbers without looking at the measure goes wrong: with 3 dl and 250 ml, 250 seems bigger, but 3 dl = 300 ml. When comparing, first put everything in the same measure, for example ml.
  • For story sums the class always uses the 5-step plan (5-stappenplan): read it 2 times · what do I know, what is the question? · write down the sum · work it out · check + unit. Here 'work it out' is converting with the four steps above.
