Cijferend optellen, eerst zonder onthouden

Zo coacht u: het stappenplan 'Cijferend optellen' van school

Uw kind leerde vandaag een nieuwe manier van optellen: cijferend. Je zet de getallen recht onder elkaar, begint rechts en rekent per kolom met cijfers. Bij 352 + 431: 2 + 1 = 3, 5 + 3 = 8, 3 + 4 = 7, dus 783. Je hebt maar één antwoordregel nodig.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Zet de getallen recht onder elkaar: E onder E, T onder T, H onder H. Eén cijfer per hokje.
    VraagStaan de eenheden onder de eenheden en de tientallen onder de tientallen? Hoe zie je dat?
  2. Begin rechts bij de eenheden. Tel de cijfers op en schrijf het antwoord onder de streep.
    VraagWaar begin je? Welke twee cijfers tel je het eerst op?
  3. Kom je op 10 of meer? Schrijf alleen het laatste cijfer op en zet de 1 klein boven de volgende kolom.
    VraagKom je op 10 of meer? Bij de sommen van vandaag is dat niet zo.
  4. Ga naar links: tientallen, honderdtallen… Tel het kleine cijfer erboven mee.

  5. Controleer: rond de getallen af en schat. Zit je antwoord in de buurt?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. 253 + 316 = ... Zet de getallen onder elkaar op ruitjespapier.Vraag: waar begin je? Rond eerst af en schat.
  2. 5124 + 3253 = ...Vraag: welke kolom komt erbij nu er duizendtallen zijn? Wat is je schatting?
  3. 705 + 84 = ...Vraag: onder welk cijfer van 705 komt de 4 van 84 te staan? Wat is je schatting?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: een bakker verkoopt 232 broden en 156 stokbroden. Hoeveel is dat samen?Vraag: moet je optellen of aftrekken? Schrijf eerst de som op, zet hem dan onder elkaar.

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: getallen links uitlijnen als ze niet even lang zijn. Staat de 5 van 54 onder de 4 van 423, dan tel je 540 erbij in plaats van 54. Het kortere getal schuif je naar rechts: de laatste cijfers staan onder elkaar.
  • Schatten is de controle, niet de som nog eens anders uitrekenen: 423 + 54 is ongeveer 400 + 50 = 450, dus een antwoord van 963 kan niet.
  • Bij verhaaltjes gebruikt de klas altijd het 5-stappenplan: lees 2 keer · wat weet ik, wat is de vraag? · schrijf de som op · reken uit · controleer + eenheid. Hier is 'reken uit' het cijferend optellen met de vijf stappen hierboven.
Antwoorden voor de ouder: 1: 569 · 2: 8377 · 3: 789 · 4: 232 + 156 = 388 broden.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Column addition'

Today your child learned a new way of adding: cijferend (column addition with digits). You put the numbers exactly under each other, start on the right and work per column with digits. For 352 + 431: 2 + 1 = 3, 5 + 3 = 8, 3 + 4 = 7, so 783. You only need one answer line.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Put the numbers exactly under each other: E under E, T under T, H under H (ones, tens, hundreds). One digit per box.

  2. Start on the right with the ones. Add the digits and write the answer under the line.

Practise together at the table

  1. 253 + 316 = ... Put the numbers under each other on squared paper.Ask: where do you start? Round first and estimate.

  3. 705 + 84 = ...Ask: under which digit of 705 does the 4 of 84 go? What is your estimate?
  4. From daily life: a baker sells 232 loaves and 156 baguettes. How many is that altogether?Ask: do you have to add or take away? First write down the sum, then put it under each other.

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • Today's mistake: lining numbers up on the left when they are not the same length. If the 5 of 54 is under the 4 of 423, you add 540 instead of 54. Move the shorter number to the right: the last digits are under each other.
  • Estimating is the check, not working the sum out again another way: 423 + 54 is about 400 + 50 = 450, so an answer of 963 is not possible.
  • For story sums the class always uses the 5-step plan (5-stappenplan): read it 2 times · what do I know, what is the question? · write down the sum · work it out · check + unit. Here 'work it out' is column addition with the five steps above.
