- Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
- Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
- Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
- Luister naar het werkwoord. In welke tijd staat het: tegenwoordige of verleden tijd?VraagIn welke tijd staat het? Hoe weet je dat?
- Tegenwoordige tijd? Zeg: Persoonsvorm in de tegenwoordige tijd: ik-vorm+t, behalve bij ik en als jij of je erachter staat en bij de gebiedende wijs.VraagWat is de ik-vorm? Staat er jij achter?
- Verleden tijd?
· Chefwoord. Ik schrijf c h. · Cadeauwoord. Ik schrijf e a u.
Categories and changing the tense of a verb
Learning goal: "I can correctly write the categories and verbs I still find difficult."
How you coach: changing the tense of a verb
Today the teacher pointed to categories on the categoriekaart (category card); your child named the category and the rule, for example for the routewoord (route word). Then your child changed the tense of verbs (present and past tense) and did a dictation with the category card.
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Listen to the verb. Which tense is it: present or past?AskWhich tense is it? How do you know?
- Present tense? Say: Persoonsvorm in de tegenwoordige tijd: ik-vorm+t, behalve bij ik en als jij of je erachter staat en bij de gebiedende wijs. (Finite verb in the present tense: the ‘I’ form + t, except with ik, when jij or je comes after it, and in the imperative.)AskWhat is the ik-vorm (the ‘I’ form)? Does jij come after it?
- Past tense? Say: Persoonsvorm in de verleden tijd van een sterk werkwoord. Ik denk aan de categoriekaart. (Finite verb in the past tense of a strong verb. I think of the category card.)AskDoes the sound of the verb change?
- Write down the other tense and read it back.AskIs it right? How do you say the rule?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Category game: write on slips of paper: taxiwoord · chefwoord · cadeauwoord. Your child draws one, says the rule and thinks of a word.Ask: how do you know it is right?1: own words; the rules: Taxiwoord. Ik schrijf x. (I write x) · Chefwoord. Ik schrijf c h. (I hear sh, I write ch) · Cadeauwoord. Ik schrijf e a u. (I write eau)
- Read each word once; your child repeats it, names the categories and writes it: de etage · de saté.Ask: which category do you hear? What is the rule?2: de etage: Garagewoord. Ik hoor /zj/, maar ik schrijf g. (I hear zh, I write g) · de saté: Klankgroepenwoord van de a(a)-lijst. (sound-group word, a(a) list) · Caféwoord. Met een streepje op de e. (a little stroke on the e: é)
- Change the tense: you say ‘jij nam · ik schreef · hij loopt’; your child writes it in the other tense and says the verb rule.Ask: which tense is it? Does the sound change?3: jij neemt · ik schrijf · hij liep
- Read aloud: ‘De buurman heeft twee grote dozen gedragen.’ Your child writes the word class under each word: lw (article), znw (noun), hww (auxiliary), tw (number), bnw (adjective) or vdw (past participle).Ask: which word is the past participle?4: De (lw) buurman (znw) heeft (hww) twee (tw) grote (bnw) dozen (znw) gedragen (vdw)
