Uw kind leerde vandaag een nieuwe categorie: het apostrof-s-meervoud. Sommige woorden krijgen in het meervoud een apostrof (’) en een s. De regel: Apostrof-s-meervoud. Bij meervoud en lange klank, y of i aan het eind: apostrof-s, behalve bij ee.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Gaat het om meer dan één, en eindigt het woord op een lange klank, y of i? Dan kan het een apostrof-s-meervoud zijn.
    VraagGaat het om één of om meer dan één? Hoe eindigt het woord?
  2. Zeg het woord en verwoord het van links naar rechts, met klanknamen (de klank, niet de naam van de letter). Wacht voor de ’s, zeg de regel hierboven en schrijf dan verder.
    VraagWat zeg je net voor je de ’s schrijft?
  3. Zit er nog een andere categorie in het woord, zoals het kilowoord (Kilowoord. Ik schrijf i.) of het Griekse y-woord (Griekse y-woord. Ik schrijf Griekse y.)? Zeg ook die regel.

  1. Lees elk woord één keer voor; uw kind zegt het na en schrijft het op: de tosti’s · de lobby’s · de lama’s.Vraag: gaat het om meer dan één? Wat is de regel?
  2. Zeg: ‘één foto, twee …?’ Uw kind schrijft het meervoud op. Ook van: de kassa · de opera.Vraag: hoe eindigt het woord? Waar wacht je even?
  3. Lees voor: ‘De bakker bakt elke dag lekker brood.’ Uw kind zoekt de persoonsvorm (pv), het werkwoordelijk gezegde (wwg) en het onderwerp (ond).Maak er een vraag van: welk woord komt vooraan?
  4. Werkwoorden: u zegt het werkwoord (springen · zwemmen · nemen); uw kind schrijft jij … in de tegenwoordige tijd en jij … in de verleden tijd.Vraag: welke werkwoordregel hoort bij jij?

  • Eerst de regel zeggen en dan pas de apostrof en de s schrijven: zo doet de juf het ook.
  • Veelgemaakte fout: de apostrof of de s weglaten.

How you coach: talking the apostrophe-s plural through, as at school

Today your child learned a new category: the apostrof-s-meervoud (plural with apostrophe + s). Some words get an apostrophe (’) and an s in the plural. The rule: Apostrof-s-meervoud. Bij meervoud en lange klank, y of i aan het eind: apostrof-s, behalve bij ee. (Apostrophe-s plural. In the plural, with a long vowel, a y or an i at the end: apostrophe + s, except with ee.)

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Is it about more than one, and does the word end in a long vowel, a y or an i? Then it may be an apostrophe-s plural.
    AskIs it about one, or more than one? How does the word end?
  2. Say the word and talk it through from left to right, using letter sounds (the sound, not the name of the letter). Stop before the ’s, say the rule above and then carry on writing.

  3. Is there another category in the word, such as the kilowoord (kilo word: Kilowoord. Ik schrijf i. (Kilo word. I write i.)) or the Griekse y-woord (Greek y word: Griekse y-woord. Ik schrijf Griekse y. (Greek y word. I write a Greek y.))? Say that rule too.

  1. Read each word aloud once; your child says it back and writes it down: de tosti’s · de lobby’s · de lama’s.Ask: is it about more than one? What is the rule?
  2. Say: ‘één foto, twee …?’ (one photo, two …?). Your child writes the plural. Also of: de kassa · de opera.Ask: how does the word end? Where do you stop for a moment?
  3. Read aloud: ‘De bakker bakt elke dag lekker brood.’ Your child finds the persoonsvorm (pv, finite verb), the werkwoordelijk gezegde (wwg, all the verbs) and the onderwerp (ond, subject).Turn it into a question: which word comes first?
  4. Verbs: you say the verb (springen · zwemmen · nemen); your child writes jij … in the present tense and jij … in the past tense.Ask: which verb rule goes with jij?
