Herhaling: categorieën in tweetallen

  3. Allebei bedenken jullie een woord erbij en schrijven het op.
VraagWelk woord past erbij? Hoe weet je dat?
  4. Wissel om: nu zegt B de categorienaam.
VraagNu jij: welke categorie? Welke regel?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

· Garagewoord. Ik hoor /zj/, maar ik schrijf g. · Griekse y-woord. Ik schrijf Griekse y. · 2: de dynamo: Griekse y-woord. Revision: categories in pairs

Year group 6Spelling · Block 6, week 4 · lesson 210 min, no screens

Learning goal: "I can correctly write the categories I still find difficult."

How you coach: practising the rules in a pair

Today your child practised the rules in pairs: one says the name of the category, the other says the rule, and together they think of a word. After that your child did a dictation without the category card, with a sentence, and found the word classes.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Child A says the name of the category.
AskWhich category do you hear? Can you find it on the category card?
  2. Child B says the rule that goes with it.
    AskWhat is the rule?
  3. You both think of a word for it and write it down.
AskWhich word fits? How do you know?
  4. Swap: now B says the name of the category.
AskYour turn: which category? Which rule?

Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.

Practise together at the table

  1. Pair: you say the name of a category (routewoord · garagewoord · Griekse y-woord); your child says the rule and thinks of a word. Swap.Ask: how do you know the word is right?
  2. Read each word aloud once; your child says it back and writes it down, without the book: de dynamo · de douane · de slijtage.Ask: which category is this? What is the rule?
  3. Read aloud: ‘In de bus naar Utrecht leest de buurman een dikke krant.’ Your child writes the word class under each word: vz (preposition), lw (article), znw (noun), ww (verb) or bnw (adjective).Ask: which word is the verb?
  4. From daily life: look together in a leaflet for a word that belongs to one of the categories. Write it down and say the rule.Ask: which category is it?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • Keep swapping: your child names the category and you say the rule, or the other way round. The answers are on this card.
  • Do not say which category a word belongs to: let your child first say the rule in their head.
