Zo coacht u: de komma verwoorden zoals op school

Uw kind haalde vandaag de regels voor de komma weer op. De komma geeft een korte rust in de zin. De komma staat bij een opsomming (behalve bij en en of), voor een voegwoord (behalve bij en en of) en voor of na de naam van iemand die wordt aangesproken. Ook herhaalde uw kind woordsoorten, zinsdelen en hoofdletters.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Lees de zin hardop voor. Zeg bij een opsomming: ‘Bij een opsomming schrijf je een komma, behalve bij en/of.’
    VraagIs dit een opsomming? Waar komt de komma?
  2. Spreekt iemand een ander aan? Zeg: ‘Voor of na de naam van iemand die je aanspreekt, gebruik je een komma.’
    VraagWie wordt er aangesproken? Waar komt de komma?
  3. Een voegwoord in de zin? Dan komt er een komma voor, behalve bij en en of.
    VraagStaat er een voegwoord in de zin? Welk?
  4. Schrijf de zin op, met hoofdletter, komma en leesteken aan het eind. Lees hem na.
    VraagStaat alles op de goede plek? Waarom?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. Lees voor; uw kind schrijft de zinnen op, met de komma: ‘Papa kun jij de deur openen?’ · ‘In de fruitschaal liggen sinaasappels citroenen en meloenen.’ · ‘Graag gedaan opa.’Vraag: waar komt de komma? Wat is de regel?
  2. Lees voor: ‘De zon schijnt maar het waait hard.’ Uw kind schrijft de zin op met de komma en zoekt het voegwoord.Vraag: welk woord verbindt de twee delen van de zin?
  3. Lees voor: ‘Opa heeft op de markt tomaten, uien en komkommers gehaald.’ Uw kind zet onder elk woord de woordsoort: znw, hww, vdw, vz, lw of vw.Vraag: welke werkwoorden staan erin? Welk woord is het hulpwerkwoord?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: uw kind schrijft een vraag aan u waarin het u aanspreekt, en een zin met drie dingen op een rij.Vraag: waar staan de komma’s en waarom?

  • Vraag bij elke komma: waarom staat hij hier? Dan oefent uw kind de regel, en gokt het niet.
  • Veelgemaakte fout: een komma voor en of of. Staat er en of of in een opsomming? Dan geen komma.

How you coach: saying the comma rule, as at school

Today your child went over the rules for the komma (comma) again. The comma gives a short pause in the sentence. A comma goes in a list (except before en and of: and, or), before a voegwoord (conjunction, except en and of) and before or after the name of the person being spoken to. Your child also revised word classes, parts of the sentence and capital letters.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Read the sentence aloud. With an opsomming (list) say: ‘Bij een opsomming schrijf je een komma, behalve bij en/of.’ (In a list you write a comma, except before en/of: and/or.)
    AskIs this a list? Where does the comma go?
  2. Is someone speaking to another person? Say: ‘Voor of na de naam van iemand die je aanspreekt, gebruik je een komma.’ (Before or after the name of the person you are talking to, you use a comma.)
    AskWho is being spoken to? Where does the comma go?
  3. A conjunction in the sentence? Then a comma goes before it, except with en and of.
    AskIs there a conjunction in the sentence? Which one?
  4. Write the sentence with a capital letter, the comma and a punctuation mark at the end. Read it back.
    AskIs everything in the right place? Why?

  1. Read aloud; your child writes the sentences with the comma: ‘Papa kun jij de deur openen?’ · ‘In de fruitschaal liggen sinaasappels citroenen en meloenen.’ · ‘Graag gedaan opa.’Ask: where does the comma go? What is the rule?
  2. Read aloud: ‘De zon schijnt maar het waait hard.’ Your child writes the sentence with the comma and finds the conjunction.Ask: which word joins the two parts of the sentence?
  3. Read aloud: ‘Opa heeft op de markt tomaten, uien en komkommers gehaald.’ Your child writes the word class under each word: znw, hww (auxiliary verb), vdw (past participle), vz, lw or vw (conjunction).Ask: which verbs are in it? Which word is the auxiliary verb?
  4. From daily life: your child writes a question to you in which they address you, and a sentence with three things in a row.Ask: where are the commas and why?

  • Ask with every comma: why is it here? Then your child practises the rule instead of guessing.
  • Common mistake: a comma before en or of. Is there en or of in a list? Then no comma.
