Herhaling grammatica
- Laat uw kind vertellen.
Grammar revision
Learning goal: "I can recognise the grammar topics I still find difficult."
How you coach: word classes, parts of the sentence and the comma
Today your child revised the grammar they still find difficult: the word classes, the material adjective, the finite verb with the tense test, the werkwoordelijk gezegde and the comma with conjunctions. The stoffelijk bijvoeglijk naamwoord (sbnw, material adjective) says what material the zelfstandig naamwoord (noun) is made of.
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Which word class is the word? For example lw (article), znw (noun), ww (verb), hww (auxiliary verb), vdw (past participle), bnw (adjective) or vz (preposition).AskWhich word class is this word? How do you know?
- Adjective: does it say what something is made of? Then say: ‘Het … is van … gemaakt. Het bijvoeglijk naamwoord … is dus een stoffelijk bijvoeglijk naamwoord.’ (The … is made of …; so the adjective … is a material adjective.)AskWhat material is it made of?
- Persoonsvorm (pv, finite verb): say the sentence in another tense. The word that changes is the finite verb. Werkwoordelijk gezegde (wwg): the finite verb plus all the other verbs.AskWhich word changes? Which verbs are there?
- Voegwoord (conjunction): write a comma before the conjunction, except with en and of.AskWhich word joins the sentences? Does a comma go before it?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Two rows (adjective and material adjective): put each word in the right row: rode · koperen · prachtige · tinnen · Chinese · bronzenAsk: does the word say what something is made of?1: adjective: rode, prachtige, Chinese · material adjective: koperen, tinnen, bronzen
- Read aloud: ‘Mijn buurvrouw heeft een lekkere taart gebakken.’ Your child underlines the auxiliary verb (hww), the past participle (vdw) and the adjective (bnw).Ask: which verbs are in it?2: heeft (hww) · gebakken (vdw) · lekkere (bnw)
- Read aloud; your child puts the comma in the right place: Ik trek mijn jas aan omdat het koud is. · Wij gaan naar buiten maar het regent. · Neem je een appel of neem je een peer?Ask: which word is the conjunction? Does a comma go before it?3: Ik trek mijn jas aan, omdat het koud is. · Wij gaan naar buiten, maar het regent. · Neem je een appel of neem je een peer? (no comma)
- Read aloud: ‘De kok bakt een pannenkoek.’ Your child says the sentence in the past tense and finds the finite verb.Ask: which word changes?4: de kok bakte een pannenkoek; persoonsvorm bakt
How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- A colour or a country (paarse, Zwitserse) is not a material adjective.
- The werkwoordelijk gezegde can consist of more than one verb, as in ‘Ik heb twee tijgerbroden gekocht’: heb gekocht.
