Welk woord komt vooraan of verandert?
Ik schrijf i.)
The café word: last practice
Learning goal: "I can write the café word correctly."
How you coach: revising tenses and parts of the sentence
Today was the last practice of the caféwoord (café word: Caféwoord. Met een streepje op de e.), again without the category card. Your child wrote a dictation with a sentence, changed a verb into the present or the perfect tense and found the finite verb and the subject in a sentence.
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Listen to the word and say it back. Think of the category and the rule in your head.AskWhich category is this? What is the rule?
- Verb: say which tense it is in (present or perfect tense) and change it into the other tense.AskWhich tense is this verb in? What is the other tense?
- Persoonsvorm (pv, finite verb): say the sentence as a question or in another tense. Which word comes first or changes?AskWhich word is the finite verb? How do you know?
- Onderwerp (ond, subject): ask who or what + the finite verb.AskWho or what … (say the finite verb)?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Read each word aloud once; your child says it back and writes it down, without the book: hé · privé · het privéterrein.Ask: which category is in it? What is the rule?1: hé and privé: Caféwoord. Met een streepje op de e. (privé also: Kilowoord. Ik schrijf i.) · *privéterrein: compound word; privé as before, terrein: short sound, double r
- Verbs: you say the verb, your child changes it into the other tense (present or perfect): jij bewaart · zij heeft herhaald · jij ontdekt · het is verbeterd.Ask: which verb rule goes with it?2: jij hebt bewaard · zij herhaalt · jij hebt ontdekt · het verbetert
- Read aloud: ‘Mijn vader zette de fiets bij het buurtcafé.’ Which tense is the sentence in? Your child finds the finite verb and the subject.Say the sentence in another tense: which word changes?3: past tense; persoonsvorm zette, onderwerp mijn vader
- From daily life: your child writes down which words they can already write with é and says the rule for each.Ask: what is the rule?4: own answer
How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- The perfect tense has a hulpwerkwoord (auxiliary verb: heb, heeft, ben, is) and a voltooid deelwoord (past participle): heb gehoord becomes ik hoor in the present tense.
- Do not only ask for the right word, but for the category and the rule: the teacher does that too.
