Persoonsvorm of voltooid deelwoord?
Revision: what do I watch out for?
Learning goal: "I can correctly write the categories and verbs I still find difficult."
How you coach: looking back and revising
Week 4 is the revision week of block 4. Today your child looked back: which categories do I still find difficult? That is at the back of the workbook, under ‘Terugkijken spelling’ (looking back: spelling). Then your child practised verbs (the ik-vorm and the t) and did a dictation.
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Look back: which categories do you still find difficult? You pay extra attention to those this week.AskWhich category do you still find difficult? What is the rule?
- Listen to the word, say it back and say the category (or categories) and the rule.AskWhich category is in it? What is the rule?
- Write the word down. A samenstelling (compound word) gets a star in front of it.AskIs it a compound word?
- A verb? First: is it a persoonsvorm (finite verb)? Then the verb rule: Persoonsvorm in de tegenwoordige tijd: ik-vorm+t, behalve bij ik en als jij of je erachter staat. (Finite verb in the present tense: the ‘I’ form + t, except with ik and when jij or je comes after it.)AskIs it a finite verb? What is the ik-vorm (the ‘I’ form)?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Verb rows: you say the verb (dirigeren · mixen · puzzelen), your child writes ik … · hij … · … jij?Ask: what is the ik-vorm? Where does a t go?1: ik dirigeer · hij dirigeert · dirigeer jij? / ik mix · hij mixt · mix jij? / ik puzzel · hij puzzelt · puzzel jij?
- Read aloud: zij bespeelt · zij heeft bespeeld · hij verbiedt · hij heeft verboden. Finite verb or voltooid deelwoord (past participle)?Ask: which rule goes with it?2: finite verb: zij bespeelt, hij verbiedt; past participle: zij heeft bespeeld, hij heeft verboden
- Read each word aloud once; your child says it back and writes it down: de auditie · de claxon · ginds.Ask: which categories are in it?3: de auditie: kilowoord (Ik schrijf i) and t(s)ie-woord (Ik schrijf tie) · de claxon: colawoord (Ik schrijf c) and taxiwoord (Ik schrijf x) · ginds: Woord van het gids-rijtje. Ik schrijf d.
- Ask your child: which category do you still find difficult? Say the rule together and think of three words.Ask: how do you check the word?4: own words.
How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- At the back of the workbook, under ‘Terugkijken spelling’, your child has written down which categories they still find difficult. Ask about it and practise exactly those.
- Common mistake: forgetting the t with hij or zij, or adding a t to a past participle.
