โ Schrijf vw eronder.
ยท Wil je een appel of wil je een banaan? (of: geen komma) ยท Ik pak een jas, want het regent.
- Lees voor: โWij blijven thuis doordat het stormt.โ Welk woord is het voegwoord? Waar komt de komma?Vraag: wat zijn de twee zinnen?2: voegwoord doordat: Wij blijven thuis, doordat het stormt.
- Schrijf deze zin goed op, met hoofdletters en leestekens: de buurvrouw vraagt wil je een koekjeVraag: welke leestekens horen bij wat iemand zegt?3: De buurvrouw vraagt: โWil je een koekje?โ
- Uit het dagelijks leven: zoek in een folder of boek een zin met een voegwoord. Staat er een komma voor?Vraag: maakt dit woord twee zinnen vast?4: komma voor het voegwoord, behalve bij en en of.
Hoe ging het?
Tip van de juf
- In het werkboek kijkt uw kind of een woord echt een voegwoord is. Vraag telkens: maakt dit woord twee zinnen aan elkaar vast?
- Veelgemaakte fout: een komma vergeten, of een komma zetten voor en of of.
Conjunction and comma, once more
Learning goal: "I can recognise the conjunction and put the comma correctly with conjunctions."
How you coach: the conjunction and the comma, in the schoolโs words
Today your child revised the voegwoord (conjunction): the word that joins two sentences together. Before the conjunction you write a comma, except with en (and) and of (or). Your child also practised capital letters and punctuation, such as the colon and the quotation marks around what someone says.
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Read the sentence. Can you see two sentences joined together?AskWhich two sentences do you see?
- Say: โHet voegwoord โฆ maakt de twee zinnen aan elkaar vast.โ (The conjunction โฆ joins the two sentences together.) Write vw under it.AskWhich word joins the two sentences together?
- Say: โIk schrijf de komma voor het voegwoordโ (I write the comma before the conjunction), except with en and of.AskDoes a comma go before this conjunction? Why, or why not?
- Write the comma straight after the word that comes before the conjunction.AskWhere exactly do you put the comma?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Read aloud; your child writes it with the comma in the right place: Ik ga slapen nadat ik mijn tanden heb gepoetst. ยท Wil je een appel of wil je een banaan? ยท Ik pak een jas want het regent.Ask: which word joins the sentences? Does a comma go before it?1: Ik ga slapen, nadat ik mijn tanden heb gepoetst. ยท Wil je een appel of wil je een banaan? (of: no comma) ยท Ik pak een jas, want het regent.
- Read aloud: โWij blijven thuis doordat het stormt.โ Which word is the conjunction? Where does the comma go?Ask: what are the two sentences?2: conjunction doordat: Wij blijven thuis, doordat het stormt.
- Write this sentence correctly, with capital letters and punctuation: de buurvrouw vraagt wil je een koekjeAsk: which punctuation marks go with what someone says?3: De buurvrouw vraagt: โWil je een koekje?โ
- From daily life: find a sentence with a conjunction in a Dutch book or leaflet. Is there a comma before it?Ask: does this word join two sentences together?4: a comma before the conjunction, except with en and of.
How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- In the workbook your child checks whether a word really is a conjunction. Keep asking: does this word join two sentences together?
