Herhaling: klankgroepenwoorden verwoorden
Revision: talking through sound-group words
Learning goal: "I can correctly write the categories I still find difficult."
How you coach: sound-group words and parts of the sentence
Today your child revised the klankgroepenwoorden (sound-group words), including those with -ueel and -eaal, and the other categories in the word, such as the cent word and the kilo word. Your child talks the word through with letter sounds: the sound group, the last sound and what to write. In a sentence your child also found the persoonsvorm (finite verb) and the onderwerp (subject).
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Go from left to right: De klankgroep is … De laatste klank is … (The sound group is … The last sound is …) Long sound: take part of the sound away. Short sound: write the consonant twice. Consonant or two-letter sound: write what you hear.AskWhat is the sound group? What is the last sound? What do you write then?
- Also say the other categories in the word, with the rule.AskWhich other categories are in it?
- Sentence: find the finite verb (question test or tense test) and the subject (who or what + finite verb?).AskWhich word changes or comes first? Who or what …?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Read each word aloud once; your child says it back, talks through the sound groups and writes it down: de bananen · de kilometer · de planeten.Ask: is the last sound of the sound group short or long? What do you write then?1: bananen: klankgroep baa en naa, lange klank: een stukje van de aa weg · kilometer: Kilowoord. Ik schrijf i. klankgroep loo en mee, lange klank: een stukje van de oo en van de ee weg · planeten: klankgroep plaa en nee, lange klank: een stukje van de aa en van de ee weg
- Read aloud: De kinderen bouwen een grote hut. Your child finds the finite verb and the subject.Say the sentence in another tense: which word changes? Who or what + finite verb?2: persoonsvorm bouwen (bouwden), onderwerp de kinderen
- Together choose one category your child still finds difficult and think of three words for it. Your child says the category and the rule for each word.Ask: how do you check the word?3: own words, with category and rule.
How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- Say sounds, not letter names: ‘naa’, not ‘en-aa’.
- With words whose ending is written exactly as you hear it, your child does not need to name that part: that usually goes well.
