Herhaling grammatica
โ Zo oefent uw kind de proeven.

Grammar revision
Learning goal: "I can recognise the word classes, parts of the sentence and punctuation marks I have learned."
How you coach: word classes and parts of the sentence, as at school
Today your child revised grammar: the word classes, the parts of the sentence (persoonsvorm, werkwoordelijk gezegde and onderwerp: finite verb, all the verbs, subject) and the capital letters and punctuation marks. In a sentence your child names the word classes with their abbreviation, such as znw for noun.
- Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
- Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
- Praise the method, not just the answer.
- Read the sentence aloud. Underline the word classes and write the abbreviation underneath. Words without a label are left as they are.AskWhich word class is this word?
- Find the finite verb with the vraagproef (question test: make it a question; which word comes first?) or with the tijdproef (tense test: put the sentence in a different tense; which word changes?).AskWhat is the finite verb? How do you know?
- The werkwoordelijk gezegde is the finite verb and all the other verbs in the sentence.AskWhich verbs are in the sentence?
- You find the onderwerp with: who or what + the verbs?AskWho or what does it?
- Look at the capital letters and the punctuation marks: are they in the right place?AskWhich capital letters and punctuation marks do you see?
Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.
Practise together at the table
- Read aloud: โOnze buurman heeft een stenen muur gebouwd.โ Your child writes the word class under each word: znw (noun), ww (verb), hww (auxiliary verb), vdw (past participle), lw (article), sbnw (material adjective).Ask: which word tells you what the wall is made of?1: Onze (no label) buurman (znw) heeft (hww) een (lw) stenen (sbnw) muur (znw) gebouwd (vdw)
- The same sentence: your child finds the pv (finite verb), the wwg (all the verbs) and the ond (subject).Make it a question: which word comes first?2: pv heeft (vraagproef: Heeft onze buurman een stenen muur gebouwd? ยท tijdproef: had) ยท wwg heeft gebouwd ยท ond onze buurman (Wie heeft gebouwd?)
- Read aloud: โOpa vraagt: โWie wil er een ijsje?โโ Your child names the capital letters and the punctuation marks.Ask: what do you see just before and after what grandad asks?3: capital letters: Opa, Wie ยท punctuation: colon, quotation marks (opening and closing), question mark
How did it go?
Tip from the teacher
- Words whose word class your child has not learned yet (such as onze) get no label: leave them as they are, just like in class.
- Keep asking: โHow do you know?โ That way your child practises the tests.
- More practice? Use the practice sheet (button on the digital card).
