Ik schrijf i. · koorts: Oor-woord. Ik schrijf oo. · drank: Plankwoord. Daar mag niets tussen. · hartelijk: Achtervoegsel /luk/. Ik schrijf lijk. · 2: eigen woorden · 3: Oor-woord. Ik schrijf oo. · Plankwoord. Daar mag niets tussen. · Achtervoegsel /ug/. Ik schrijf ig. · Achtervoegsel /luk/. Ik schrijf lijk. · Speciaal hakwoord. Daar mag geen u tussen.

Revision: last lesson of block 1

Year group 6Spelling · Block 1, week 4 · lesson 510 min, no screens

Learning goal: "I can correctly write the categories I still find difficult."

How you coach: talking through and correcting

This was the last revision lesson of block 1. Your child talked words through step by step with letter sounds and named the other categories in every word. Then your child corrected the dictation words that were still wrong: wrote them out correctly once more and said the rule softly.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Listen to the word and say it back. Talk it through step by step, with letter sounds.
AskWhich categories are in this word?
  2. Say the rule for each category, from left to right.
AskWhat is the rule for each category?
  3. Write the word down. A samenstelling (compound word) gets a star in front of it.
    AskIs it a compound word?
  4. Correct a wrong word: write it out correctly once more and softly say the category and the rule.
AskWhat is the category? What is the rule?

Words in bold are the Dutch words your child uses in class.

Practise together at the table

  1. Read each word aloud once; your child says it back, talks it through from left to right and writes it down: de minister · de koorts · de drank · hartelijk.Ask: which category or categories are in it? What is the rule?
  2. Correcting: together choose a few words your child cannot write correctly yet. Your child writes each word out correctly once more and softly says the category and the rule.Ask: what is the rule? How do you check the word?
  3. You name a category (oor-woord · plankwoord · achtervoegsel /ug/ and /luk/ · speciaal hakwoord); your child says the rule and a word for it.Ask: how do you check the word?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • Praise what is already going well and ask: which category would you like to practise more? Your child tells the teacher too.
  • Say sounds, not letter names: ‘roo’, not ‘er-oo’.
Answers for the parent: 1: minister: Kilowoord. Ik schrijf i. · koorts: Oor-woord. Ik schrijf oo. · drank: Plankwoord. Daar mag niets tussen. · hartelijk: Achtervoegsel /luk/. Ik schrijf lijk. · 2: own words · 3: Oor-woord. Ik schrijf oo. · Plankwoord. Daar mag niets tussen. · Achtervoegsel /ug/. Ik schrijf ig. · Achtervoegsel /luk/. Ik schrijf lijk. · Speciaal hakwoord. Daar mag geen u tussen.
