Zo coacht u: het stappenplan 'Windrichtingen bepalen' van school

Uw kind leerde vandaag de acht windrichtingen: noord, oost, zuid, west (met de klok mee: Nooit Op Zondag Wassen) en ertussen noordoost, zuidoost, zuidwest en noordwest. Een plek schuin tussen noord en oost ligt in het noordoosten. Je zegt altijd eerst noord of zuid.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Waar ben je? Zet in gedachten de windroos op die plek.

  1. Je kijkt naar het westen en draait een kwartslag naar rechts. Waar kijk je nu naar?Vraag: is naar rechts draaien met de klok mee? Kun je het voordoen op een getekende windroos?
  2. Teken een kaartje met het noorden boven. De school staat in het midden, de bakker schuin linksonder van de school. In welke richting ligt de bakker vanaf de school?Vraag: tussen welke twee richtingen ligt de bakker? Welke zeg je eerst?

  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: het zwembad ligt ten noordoosten van de school. Teken een kaartje met het noorden boven. Waar teken je het zwembad, gezien vanaf de school?Vraag: tussen welke twee richtingen ligt noordoost?

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: altijd vanaf het midden van de kaart kijken. Vraag: 'Waar ben je? Leg je vinger daar neer.' Andere fouten: oost en west omdraaien (help met Nooit Op Zondag Wassen) en 'westnoord' zeggen in plaats van noordwest.
  • Laat uw kind het kaartje tekenen en een hand of een klein windroosje op de plek leggen waar het is. Dan ziet het de richting meteen.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Windrichtingen bepalen'

Today your child learned the eight compass directions in Dutch: noord, oost, zuid, west (N, E, S, W; clockwise: Nooit Op Zondag Wassen, 'never wash on Sunday') and in between noordoost, zuidoost, zuidwest, noordwest (NE, SE, SW, NW). You always say noord or zuid first.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Where are you? In your mind, put the compass rose (windroos) on that spot.
    AskWhich spot are you at? Can you put the compass rose there?
  2. Where is north? On a map it is usually at the top: look for the N.
    AskWhere is north on the map?
  3. Is the place straight above, below, left or right? Then it is noord, zuid, west or oost (clockwise: Nooit Op Zondag Wassen).

Practise together at the table

  1. You are facing west and turn a quarter turn to the right. Which way are you facing now?Ask: is turning to the right clockwise? Can you show it on a compass rose you have drawn?
  2. Draw a map with north at the top. The school is in the middle, the baker's diagonally down to the left of the school. In which direction is the baker's from the school?Ask: between which two directions is the baker's? Which one do you say first?
  3. Draw a map with north at the top. The school is in the middle, the church diagonally up to the left of the school. In which direction is the school from the church?Ask: where are you now? Put your hand on that spot as a compass rose.
  4. From daily life: the swimming pool is to the north-east of the school. Draw a map with north at the top. Where do you draw the swimming pool, seen from the school?Ask: between which two directions is north-east?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • The typical mistake: always looking from the middle of the map. Ask: 'Where are you? Put your finger there.' Other mistakes: mixing up oost and west (Nooit Op Zondag Wassen helps) and saying 'westnoord' instead of noordwest.
  • Let your child draw the map and put a hand or a small compass rose on the spot where they are. Then the direction is easy to see.
