Bouwen met een stappenplan

Uw kind leerde vandaag een bouwwerk van blokjes maken met een bouwbeschrijving in stappen, zoals bij een bouwpakket. Een trap in 3 bouwstappen: 3 blokjes in een rij, dan 2 erbij, dan 1 erbij, samen 6 blokjes. Soms zit er een blokje verstopt: 4 blokjes als een vierkant en op elk blokje 1 blokje zijn samen 8 blokjes, maar op het plaatje zie je er 7.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Lees eerst de hele bouwbeschrijving: wat ga je maken en hoeveel blokjes heb je nodig?
    VraagWat ga je bouwen? Hoeveel blokjes denk je nodig te hebben?
  2. Doe één bouwstap tegelijk. Kijk wat er nieuw is (roze) en wáár het komt.
    VraagWat is er in deze bouwstap nieuw? Waar komt het te liggen?
  3. Vergelijk na elke bouwstap jouw bouwwerk met het plaatje.
    VraagKlopt je bouwwerk met het plaatje? Hoeveel blokjes zijn het nu?
  4. Klaar? Tel na: heb je alle blokjes gebruikt? Ook de blokjes die je op het plaatje niet meer ziet!
    VraagHoeveel blokjes heb je in totaal gebruikt? Zitten er blokjes verstopt?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. Bouwstap 1: leg 5 blokjes in een rij. Bouwstap 2: zet op de 2 linker blokjes elk 1 blokje. Bouwstap 3: zet op het linker blokje nog 1 blokje. Hoeveel blokjes heb je nodig?Vraag: wat is er in elke bouwstap nieuw?
  2. Bouwstap 1: leg 6 blokjes neer als 2 rijen van 3. Bouwstap 2: zet op elk blokje 1 blokje. Hoeveel blokjes heb je nodig?Vraag: tel je met de bouwstappen, of alleen wat je ziet?
  3. Uit het dagelijks leven: je hebt 15 Lego-blokjes. Bouwstap 1: leg 4 blokjes in een rij. Bouwstap 2: zet op elk blokje 1 blokje. Hoeveel blokjes houd je over?Vraag: wat is je som?
  4. Bedenk zelf een bouwwerk in 3 bouwstappen en schrijf de bouwbeschrijving op. Hoeveel blokjes heb je nodig?Vraag: kan iemand anders het bouwen met alleen je beschrijving?

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: alleen de blokjes tellen die je op het plaatje ziet; er kan er een verstopt zitten. Laat uw kind per bouwstap opschrijven hoeveel er erbij komen en optellen. Met echte blokjes of Lego snapt het dat meteen.
  • Bij verhaaltjes gebruikt de klas altijd het 5-stappenplan: lees 2 keer · wat weet ik, wat is de vraag? · schrijf de som op · reken uit · controleer + eenheid. Hier is 'reken uit' het tellen van de blokjes per bouwstap.
Antwoorden voor de ouder: 1: 5 + 2 + 1 = 8 blokjes · 2: 6 + 6 = 12 blokjes · 3: 4 + 4 = 8 gebruikt, dus 7 over · 4: eigen bouwwerk: tel per bouwstap en tel op.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Bouwen met een stappenplan'

Today your child learned to build with blocks from building instructions (bouwbeschrijving) in steps, like a construction kit. A staircase in 3 building steps: 3 blocks in a row, then 2 more, then 1 more: 6 blocks. Sometimes a block is hidden: 4 blocks as a square with 1 block on each make 8 blocks, but in the picture you see 7.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. First read the whole building instructions: what are you going to make and how many blocks do you need?
    AskWhat are you going to build? How many blocks do you think you need?
  2. Do one building step at a time. Look at what is new (pink) and where it goes.
    AskWhat is new in this building step? Where does it go?
  3. After each building step, compare your building with the picture.
    AskDoes your building match the picture? How many blocks is it now?
  4. Finished? Count again: have you used all the blocks? Also the blocks you cannot see in the picture any more!
    AskHow many blocks have you used in total? Are any blocks hidden?

Practise together at the table

  1. Building step 1: 5 blocks in a row. Building step 2: 1 block on each of the 2 left blocks. Building step 3: 1 more block on top of the left one. How many blocks do you need?Ask: what is new in each building step?
  2. Building step 1: 6 blocks as 2 rows of 3. Building step 2: 1 block on each block. How many blocks do you need?Ask: do you count with the building steps, or only what you see?
  3. From daily life: you have 15 Lego bricks. Building step 1: 4 bricks in a row. Building step 2: 1 brick on each brick. How many bricks are left?Ask: what is your sum?
  4. Think up your own building in 3 building steps and write down the building instructions. How many blocks do you need?Ask: can someone else build it with only your instructions?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • The typical mistake: only counting the blocks you see in the picture; one may be hidden. Let your child write down how many are added in each building step, and add up. With real blocks or Lego it clicks straight away.
  • For story sums the class always uses the 5-step plan (5-stappenplan): read it 2 times · what do I know, what is the question? · write down the sum · work it out · check + unit. Here 'work it out' is counting the blocks per building step.
Answers for the parent: 1: 5 + 2 + 1 = 8 blocks · 2: 6 + 6 = 12 blocks · 3: 4 + 4 = 8 used, so 7 left · 4: own building: count per building step and add up.
