Uw kind leerde vandaag een datum in cijfers lezen en schrijven: eerst de dag, dan de maand (als nummer), dan het jaar. 14 maart 2027 is 14-03-2027, want maart is de 3e maand. De dag en de maand hebben 2 cijfers, het jaar 4.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Vooraan staat de dag, met 2 cijfers. Is de dag 1 tot en met 9? Zet er een 0 voor.
    VraagWelke dag is het? Heeft de dag 1 of 2 cijfers?
  2. In het midden staat de maand als nummer: tel in de maandenrij welke maand het is. Ook 2 cijfers.
    VraagWelke maand is het? Tel de maanden af: de hoeveelste is het?
  3. Achteraan staat het jaar: 4 cijfers.
    VraagWelk jaar is het? Hoeveel cijfers heeft het jaar?
  4. Zet een streepje tussen de dag, de maand en het jaar. Lezen gaat in dezelfde volgorde: dag, maand, jaar.
    VraagHoe ziet de datum eruit met streepjes? In welke volgorde lees je hem?

  1. Schrijf in cijfers: 9 augustus 2026Vraag: de hoeveelste maand is augustus? Hoeveel cijfers heeft de dag?
  2. Schrijf in cijfers: 27 februari 2027Vraag: tel de maanden af. Heeft de maand 1 of 2 cijfers?
  3. Schrijf in woorden: 18-06-2026Vraag: wat is het eerste getal? En het tweede?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: op een pak sap staat 'ten minste houdbaar tot 22-03-2027'. Tot welke datum is het sap houdbaar? Schrijf het in woorden.Vraag: wat is de dag, wat is de maand, wat is het jaar?

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: de dag en de maand omdraaien, of de maand verkeerd tellen. 10-01-2027 is niet 1 oktober: het eerste getal is altijd de dag. Laat uw kind de vinger op het eerste getal leggen en 'dag' zeggen.
  • Zet een maandenrij op tafel. Laat uw kind eerst drie hokjes tekenen (dag | maand | jaar) en die invullen, pas daarna de streepjes. Wie steeds bij januari opnieuw begint met tellen, mag de maandenrij erbij pakken.

How you coach: the school's plan 'A date in digits'

Today your child learned to read and write a date in digits, the Dutch way: first the day, then the month (as a number), then the year. 14 maart (March) 2027 is 14-03-2027, because March is the 3rd month. The day and the month have 2 digits, the year 4. In class the months are written in Dutch, for example juni (June).

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. At the front is the day, with 2 digits. Is the day 1 to 9? Put a 0 in front of it.
    AskWhich day is it? Does the day have 1 or 2 digits?
  2. In the middle is the month as a number: count in the row of months (maandenrij) which month it is. Also 2 digits.
    AskWhich month is it? Count off the months: which number is it?
  3. At the end is the year: 4 digits.
    AskWhich year is it? How many digits does the year have?
  4. Put a dash between the day, the month and the year. You read it in the same order: day, month, year.
    AskWhat does the date look like with dashes? In which order do you read it?

  1. Write in digits: 9 augustus (August) 2026Ask: which number month is August? How many digits does the day have?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • The typical mistake: turning the day and the month round, or counting the month wrongly. 10-01-2027 is not 1 October: the first number is always the day. Let your child put a finger on the first number and say 'dag' (day).
  • Put a row of months on the table. Let your child first draw three boxes (dag | maand | jaar: day | month | year) and fill them in, only then the dashes. A child who keeps starting again at January to count may use the row of months.
