Klokkijken met seconden

Uw kind leerde vandaag een klok met een secondewijzer aflezen. De dunne secondewijzer draait in 1 minuut één rondje: 1 minuut = 60 seconden. Je leest hem af op de streepjes, net als de minuten. Een tijd schrijf je op als 8:25:50.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Kijk naar de korte dikke wijzer (de kleine wijzer): welk uur is het geweest?
    VraagWelke wijzer is de korte dikke wijzer? Welk uur is het geweest?
  2. Kijk naar de dikke lange wijzer (de grote wijzer): hoeveel minuten na het hele uur?
    VraagWaar staat de lange wijzer? Hoeveel minuten na het hele uur is dat?
  3. Kijk naar de dunne secondewijzer: hoeveel seconden? Tel bij de getallen in sprongen van 5 (5, 10, 15 …) en tel daarna de kleine streepjes erbij.
    VraagWaar staat de secondewijzer? Tel in sprongen van 5. Zijn er nog streepjes erbij?
  4. Schrijf op: uur : minuten : seconden, zoals 8:25:50.

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. De secondewijzer staat op de 8. Hoeveel seconden is dat?Vraag: hoeveel seconden is één getal verder? Tel in sprongen van 5.
  2. De secondewijzer staat 3 streepjes na de 4. Hoeveel seconden is dat?Vraag: hoeveel seconden is de 4? En de streepjes erna?
  3. De korte wijzer staat tussen de 2 en de 3, de lange wijzer op de 7, de secondewijzer op de 5. Hoe laat is het (uur:minuten:seconden)?Teken de klok. Vraag: welke wijzer is welke? Welk uur is het geweest?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: lees thuis een klok of horloge met een secondewijzer af. Hoe laat is het precies?Vraag: wijs eerst de drie wijzers aan. Welke is welke?

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Twee fouten: minuten en seconden verwisselen (4:10:45 in plaats van 4:45:10), en bij 45 minuten al het volgende uur opschrijven (5:45 in plaats van 4:45).
  • Laat uw kind eerst de drie wijzers aanwijzen. Uur is een kort woord: korte dikke wijzer. Minuten is een lang woord: lange dikke wijzer.
  • Tel tussen twee getallen eerst het getal ervóór (× 5) en dan de streepjes erbij. 5 seconden schrijf je als :05.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Telling the time with seconds'

Today your child learned to read a clock with a second hand (secondewijzer). The thin second hand goes round once in 1 minute: 1 minute = 60 seconds. You read it on the marks, just like the minutes. A time is written as 8:25:50 (hours : minutes : seconds).

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Look at the short thick hand (the small hand): which hour has it been?
    AskWhich hand is the short thick hand? Which hour has it been?
  2. Look at the thick long hand (the big hand): how many minutes past the whole hour?
    AskWhere is the long hand? How many minutes past the whole hour is that?
  3. Look at the thin second hand: how many seconds? At the numbers count in jumps of 5 (5, 10, 15 …) and then add the small marks.
    AskWhere is the second hand? Count in jumps of 5. Are there any marks to add?
  4. Write down: hours : minutes : seconds, like 8:25:50.
    AskWhich three numbers do you write down, and in which order?

Practise together at the table

  1. The second hand is on the 8. How many seconds is that?Ask: how many seconds is one number further? Count in jumps of 5.
  2. The second hand is 3 marks past the 4. How many seconds is that?Ask: how many seconds is the 4? And the marks after it?
  3. The short hand is between the 2 and the 3, the long hand on the 7, the second hand on the 5. What time is it (hours:minutes:seconds)?Draw the clock. Ask: which hand is which? Which hour has it been?
  4. From daily life: read a clock or watch with a second hand at home. What time is it exactly?Ask: first point to the three hands. Which one is which?

Tip from the teacher

  • Two mistakes: mixing up minutes and seconds (4:10:45 instead of 4:45:10), and writing the next hour already at 45 minutes (5:45 instead of 4:45).
  • Let your child point to the three hands first. A Dutch memory trick: uur (hour) is a short word: short thick hand. Minuten (minutes) is a long word: long thick hand.
  • Between two numbers, first count the number before it (× 5) and then add the marks. 5 seconds is written as :05.
