Uw kind leerde vandaag aftrekken door de getallen onder elkaar te zetten en van links naar rechts te rekenen: eerst de honderdtallen, dan de tientallen, dan de eenheden, en dan de deelresultaten optellen. Bij 768 − 325 is dat 400 + 40 + 3 = 443. Dat heet kolomsgewijs aftrekken.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: een getal met twee cijfers links uitlijnen. Bij 486 − 53 staat de 3 onder de 6 en de 5 onder de 8; bij de honderdtallen staat niets (400 − 0). Laat uw kind aanwijzen: 'de eenheden staan helemaal rechts'.
  • Laat uw kind de deelresultaten echt opschrijven (400, 40, 3), niet alleen het antwoord. Het rekent met de waarde: 400, niet 4. Reken vandaag van links naar rechts: dat is nodig voor het tekort in de volgende lessen.
  • Bij verhaaltjes gebruikt de klas altijd het 5-stappenplan: lees 2 keer · wat weet ik, wat is de vraag? · schrijf de som op · reken uit · controleer + eenheid. Hier is 'reken uit' het kolomsgewijs aftrekken met de stappen hierboven.

Subtracting under each other: kolomsgewijs

How you coach: the school's plan 'Kolomsgewijs subtracting up to 1000'

Today your child learned to subtract by putting the numbers under each other and working from left to right: first the hundreds, then the tens, then the ones, and then adding up the part results. For 768 − 325 that is 400 + 40 + 3 = 443. This is called kolomsgewijs (column by column) subtracting.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Put the numbers exactly under each other: H under H, T under T, E under E (hundreds, tens, ones).

Tip from the teacher

  • Today's mistake: lining up a two-digit number on the left. In 486 − 53 the 3 goes under the 6 and the 5 under the 8; at the hundreds there is nothing (400 − 0). Let your child point: 'the ones are on the far right'.
  • Let your child really write down the part results (400, 40, 3), not just the answer. Your child works with the value: 400, not 4. Today work from left to right: that is needed for being short in the next lessons.
  • For story sums the class always uses the 5-step plan (5-stappenplan): read it 2 times · what do I know, what is the question? · write down the sum · work it out · check + unit. Here 'work it out' is kolomsgewijs subtracting with the steps above.
