Uw kind leerde vandaag getallen tussen 10 000 en 100 000 uitspreken en opschrijven, met het positieschema TD D H T E. Bij 34 507 staat de spatie tussen de duizendtallen en de honderdtallen: daar zeg je 'duizend'. Dat wordt vierendertigduizend vijfhonderdzeven.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Zet het getal in het positieschema: TD D | H T E.
    VraagWelk cijfer staat bij TD, D, H, T en E? Waar staat de spatie?
  2. Lees het stuk vóór de spatie en zeg er duizend achter.

  3. Lees de drie cijfers na de spatie zoals je gewend bent.
    VraagWelke drie cijfers staan er na de spatie? Hoe lees je die?
  4. Opschrijven? Na de spatie staan altijd drie cijfers. Een lege plek krijgt een 0.
    VraagHoeveel cijfers staan er na de spatie? Welke plekken zijn leeg en wat komt daar?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. Zeg hardop: 73 826.Vraag: wat zeg je vóór de spatie? Wat zeg je daarna?
  2. Schrijf met cijfers: zesentwintigduizend driehonderdvijf.Vraag: wat hoor je vóór 'duizend'? En daarna? Teken het schema TD D | H T E.
  3. Schrijf met cijfers: veertigduizend zes.Vraag: hoeveel cijfers komen er na de spatie? Welke plekken blijven leeg?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: de kilometerstand van een auto is 87 054. Zeg het hardop en schrijf het in woorden.Vraag: welk getal staat vóór de spatie? Zet 'duizend' op de plek van de spatie.

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: de nullen vergeten. Bij vijftigduizend zeventig schrijf je 50 070, niet 5070 of 50 70. Na de spatie staan altijd drie cijfers: laat uw kind eerst drie hokjes tekenen.
  • Wat is een cijfer waard? De 3 in 34 507 is 30 000, niet 3 of 3000. Laat uw kind kijken naar de plek van het cijfer.
  • Zeg het getal in twee stukken, met een korte stilte bij de spatie: 'vierendertig-duizend ... vijfhonderdzeven'.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Saying and writing big numbers'

Today your child learned to say and write numbers between 10 000 and 100 000 in Dutch, with the positieschema (place value chart) TD D H T E (ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens, ones). In 34 507 the space is between the thousands and the hundreds: that is where you say 'duizend' (thousand). It becomes vierendertigduizend vijfhonderdzeven.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Put the number in the positieschema: TD D | H T E.
    AskWhich digit is at TD, D, H, T and E? Where is the space?
  2. Read the part before the space and say 'duizend' (thousand) after it.
    AskWhich number is before the space? What do you say after it?
  3. Read the three digits after the space the way you are used to.
    AskWhich three digits are after the space? How do you read them?
  4. Writing it down? After the space there are always three digits. An empty place gets a 0.
    AskHow many digits are after the space? Which places are empty and what goes there?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • Today's mistake: forgetting the zeros. For vijftigduizend zeventig (fifty thousand and seventy) you write 50 070, not 5070 or 50 70. After the space there are always three digits: let your child draw three boxes first.
  • What is a digit worth? The 3 in 34 507 is 30 000, not 3 or 3000. Let your child look at the place of the digit. In Dutch you say the ones before the tens: 34 = vierendertig ('four-and-thirty'), but you write the 3 first.
  • Say the number in two parts, with a short pause at the space: 'vierendertig-duizend ... vijfhonderdzeven'.
Answers for the parent: 1: drieënzeventigduizend achthonderdzesentwintig · 2: 26 305 · 3: 40 006 · 4: zevenentachtigduizend vierenvijftig.
