Waar valt de schaduw, en hoe lang is hij?

Uw kind leerde vandaag een schaduw voorspellen. Licht gaat in een rechte lijn, dus de schaduw ligt altijd aan de andere kant van het voorwerp dan het licht. Staat het licht laag, zoals de zon 's ochtends, dan is de schaduw lang; staat het licht hoog, dan is hij kort.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Zoek de lichtbron: de zon of een lamp.
    VraagWaar is de lichtbron? Is het de zon of een lamp?
  2. Trek in gedachten een rechte lijn van het licht langs de bovenkant van het voorwerp tot op de grond.
    VraagLangs welk punt van het voorwerp loopt het licht? Trek met je vinger een rechte lijn.
  3. De schaduw ligt aan de andere kant van het voorwerp: van de voet tot waar die lijn de grond raakt.
    VraagAan welke kant van het voorwerp ligt de schaduw? Tot waar loopt hij?
  4. Controleer: licht laag → schaduw lang. Licht hoog → schaduw kort.
    VraagStaat het licht laag of hoog? Is de schaduw dan lang of kort?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. Teken een pen die rechtop staat, met een zaklamp schuin boven de pen aan de linkerkant. Trek de lichtstraal langs de top van de pen. Waar komt de schaduw?Vraag: waar is de lichtbron? Waar eindigt de lijn op de grond?
  2. De schaduw van een lantaarnpaal ligt links van de paal en is heel kort. Aan welke kant staat de zon en staat hij laag of hoog?Vraag: aan welke kant ligt de schaduw altijd, vergeleken met het licht?
  3. Waarom is je schaduw 's avonds langer dan midden op de dag?Vraag: wat bepaalt hoe lang een schaduw is?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: ga bij zonnig weer buiten staan met de zon aan je linkerkant. Voorspel eerst waar je schaduw komt. Kijk daarna of het klopt.Doe het ook met een zaklamp en een gum rechtop op tafel.

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Een schaduw zit niet altijd achter je. Hij ligt aan de kant waar het licht niet is: met de zon in je rug ligt je schaduw vóór je.
  • Hoger is niet langer. Hoe hoger de zon, hoe korter de schaduw.
  • Laat uw kind eerst de lichtbron aanwijzen. Wie meteen naar de schaduw kijkt, raadt vaak de verkeerde kant.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Where does the shadow fall?'

Today your child learned to predict a shadow. Light travels in a straight line, so the shadow is always on the other side of the object from the light. When the light is low, like the sun in the morning, the shadow is long; when the light is high, it is short.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Find the light source (lichtbron): the sun or a lamp.
    AskWhere is the light source? Is it the sun or a lamp?
  2. Imagine a straight line from the light past the top of the object down to the ground.
    AskPast which point of the object does the light go? Draw a straight line with your finger.
  3. The shadow is on the other side of the object: from its foot to where that line touches the ground.
    AskOn which side of the object is the shadow? How far does it go?
  4. Check: light low → shadow long. Light high → shadow short.
    AskIs the light low or high? Is the shadow long or short then?

Practise together at the table

  1. Draw a pen standing upright, with a torch at an angle above the pen on the left. Draw the light ray past the tip of the pen. Where is the shadow?Ask: where is the light source? Where does the line end on the ground?
  2. The shadow of a lamp post is to the left of the post and is very short. On which side is the sun, and is it low or high?Ask: on which side is the shadow always, compared with the light?
  3. Why is your shadow longer in the evening than in the middle of the day?Ask: what decides how long a shadow is?
  4. From daily life: on a sunny day, stand outside with the sun on your left. First predict where your shadow will be. Then look whether you were right.Also try it with a torch and an eraser standing upright on the table.

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • A shadow is not always behind you. It is on the side where the light is not: with the sun behind you, your shadow is in front of you.
  • Higher is not longer. The higher the sun, the shorter the shadow.
  • Let your child point to the light source first. Children who look at the shadow straight away often guess the wrong side.
Answers for the parent: 1: to the right of the pen · 2: the sun is on the right and high · 3: in the evening the sun is low, and low light gives a long shadow · 4: to your right.
