Zo coacht u: 'Rond getallen af in drie stappen' van school

Uw kind leerde vandaag getallen afronden, zodat je snel zegt hoeveel het ongeveer is. Bijvoorbeeld 428 op tientallen: 42|8, de 8 is groter dan 5, dus 430. Het streepje is het hulpmiddel: het laat zien welk cijfer beslist.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Zet een streepje na het cijfer waarop je wilt afronden.
    VraagWaarop ga je afronden: tientallen of honderdtallen? Welk cijfer is dat, en waar komt het streepje?
  2. Bepaal wat het eerstvolgende cijfer is (direct na het streepje).
    VraagWelk cijfer staat direct na het streepje?
  3. Kleiner dan 5? Rond af naar beneden. 5 of groter dan 5? Rond af naar boven. Na het streepje komen nullen.
    VraagIs dat cijfer kleiner dan 5, of 5 of groter? Dus welke kant op? Welk getal wordt het?

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. Rond 734 af op tientallen.Vraag: welk cijfer is het tientallencijfer? Waar zet je het streepje?
  2. Rond 2856 af op honderdtallen.Vraag: welk cijfer staat op de plek van de honderdtallen? Welk cijfer komt direct erna?
  3. Rond 4350 af op honderdtallen.Vraag: wat is het eerstvolgende cijfer? Wat is de afspraak als dat een 5 is?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: een tweedehands fiets kost 389 euro. Hoeveel is dat ongeveer? Rond af op tientallen.Laat uw kind eerst het streepje zetten en daarna pas het antwoord zeggen.

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Kijk naar het cijfer na het streepje, niet naar het cijfer ervoor. En na het streepje komen nullen: 3487 wordt 3500, niet 35.
  • Is het een 5? Dan gaat het naar boven, ook als het getal precies in het midden ligt: 1250 op honderdtallen wordt 1300. In de klas zeggen de kinderen: vijf of meer, naar boven.
  • Rondt uw kind op tientallen af terwijl het honderdtallen moest doen? Dan stond het streepje te ver naar rechts. Laat het de plekken aanwijzen: duizendtal, honderdtal, tiental, eenheid.
Antwoorden voor de ouder: 1: 73|4, 4 is kleiner dan 5: naar beneden, dus 730 · 2: 28|56, een 5: naar boven, dus 2900 · 3: 43|50, een 5: naar boven, dus 4400 · 4: 38|9, 9 is groter dan 5: naar boven, dus ongeveer 390 euro.

Rounding to tens and hundreds

How you coach: the school's plan 'Round numbers in three steps'

Today your child learned to round numbers, so you can quickly say about how much something is. For example 428 to the nearest ten: 42|8, the 8 is bigger than 5, so 430. The streepje (small line) is the tool: it shows which digit decides.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Put a streepje (a small line) after the digit you are rounding to.
    AskWhat are you rounding to: tens or hundreds? Which digit is that, and where does the line go?
  2. Find the eerstvolgende cijfer (the next digit), directly after the line.
    AskWhich digit comes directly after the line?
  3. Smaller than 5? Round down: naar beneden. 5 or bigger than 5? Round up: naar boven. After the line come zeros.
    AskIs that digit smaller than 5, or 5 or bigger? So which way? Which number do you get?

Practise together at the table

  1. Round 734 to the nearest ten.Ask: which digit is the tens digit? Where do you put the line?
  2. Round 2856 to the nearest hundred.Ask: which digit is in the hundreds place? Which digit comes right after it?
  3. Round 4350 to the nearest hundred.Ask: what is the next digit? What is the rule when it is a 5?
  4. From daily life: a second-hand bike costs 389 euros. About how much is that? Round to the nearest ten.Let your child put the line first, and only then say the answer.

Tip from the teacher

  • Look at the digit after the line, not the one before it. And after the line come zeros: 3487 becomes 3500, not 35.
  • Is it a 5? Then round up, even when the number is exactly in the middle: 1250 to the nearest hundred becomes 1300. In class the children say: vijf of meer, naar boven (five or more, round up).
  • Does your child round to tens when it should be hundreds? Then the line was too far to the right. Let your child point to the places: thousands, hundreds, tens, ones.
