Uw kind leerde vandaag een vak op een kaart opzoeken, zoals C3 op de kaart van een pretpark. De letter is de kolom, het cijfer de rij, en waar ze kruisen ligt het vak. Andersom ook: bij een plek de letter en het cijfer vinden.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Bij elke letter (boven en onder) hoort een kolom (van boven naar beneden).
    VraagWelke kolom hoort bij de letter? Kun je er met je vinger langs lopen?
  2. Bij elk cijfer (links en rechts) hoort een rij (van links naar rechts).
    VraagWelke rij hoort bij het cijfer? Kun je er met je vinger langs lopen?
  3. Opzoeken: waar kolom en rij kruisen, ligt het vak. Benoemen: ga vanaf de plek recht naar de letter en recht opzij naar het cijfer.
    VraagWaar kruisen de kolom en de rij? Of: bij welke letter en welk cijfer kom je vanaf de plek uit?
  4. Noem eerst de letter, dan het cijfer: C3.

Samen oefenen aan tafel

  1. Teken een rooster met 5 kolommen (letters A t/m E) en 4 rijen (cijfers 1 t/m 4, rij 1 bovenaan). Zet een boom in vak C3.Vraag: welke kolom hoort bij de C? Welke rij bij de 3? Waar kruisen ze?
  2. Zet in dat rooster een huis in vak E1. Je loopt vanaf het huis 3 vakken naar links. In welk vak sta je?Vraag: loop je langs een kolom of langs een rij? Welke letters kom je tegen?
  3. Je loopt vanaf de boom (C3) 2 vakken omhoog en dan 1 vak naar rechts. Daar zet je een vlag. In welk vak staat de vlag?Vraag: wat gebeurt er met het cijfer als je omhoog loopt? En met de letter als je naar rechts loopt?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: teken je kamer in een rooster (A t/m D, 1 t/m 3). Zet je bed, de deur en een kast elk in een eigen vak. Zeg waar ze liggen.Vraag: zeg je eerst de letter en dan het cijfer? Wijs de kolom en de rij aan.

Hoe ging het?

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: letter en cijfer omdraaien ('4A' in plaats van A4). Het ezelsbruggetje uit de klas: 'eerst de letter, dan het cijfer'. Ligt iets in meer dan één vak, noem dan alle vakken.
  • Twee-vingers-truc: leg de ene wijsvinger op de letter en de andere op het cijfer. Schuif ze naar elkaar toe tot ze botsen: daar is het vak.
Antwoorden voor de ouder: 1: de boom staat op de kruising van kolom C en rij 3 · 2: B1 (D1, C1, B1) · 3: D1 (rij 3 → rij 1, kolom C → kolom D) · 4: eigen tekening: controleer dat uw kind steeds eerst de letter noemt en dan het cijfer.

How you coach: the school's plan 'Finding and naming a square on a map'

Today your child learned to find a square (vak) on a map, like C3 on a theme park map. The letter is the column, the number the row; where they cross is the square. And the other way round: finding the letter and the number for a place.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.
  1. Each letter (at the top and bottom) has a kolom (column, from top to bottom).
    AskWhich column goes with the letter? Can you run your finger along it?
  2. Each number (on the left and right) has a rij (row, from left to right).
    AskWhich row goes with the number? Can you run your finger along it?
  3. Finding: where column and row cross is the vak (square). Naming: from the place go straight to the letter and straight sideways to the number.
    AskWhere do the column and the row cross? Or: at which letter and which number do you end up from the place?
  4. Say the letter first, then the number: C3.
    AskWhich square is it? Do you say the letter first and then the number?

Practise together at the table

  1. Draw a grid with 5 columns (A to E) and 4 rows (1 to 4, row 1 at the top). Put a tree in square C3.Ask: which column goes with the C? Which row with the 3? Where do they cross?
  2. In that grid, put a house in square E1. You walk 3 squares to the left from the house. Which square are you in?Ask: are you walking along a column or a row? Which letters do you pass?
  3. From the tree (C3) you walk 2 squares up and 1 to the right, and put a flag there. Which square is the flag in?Ask: what happens to the number when you walk up? And to the letter when you go right?
  4. From daily life: draw your room in a grid (A to D, 1 to 3). Put your bed, the door and a cupboard each in a square. Say where they are.Ask: do you say the letter first and then the number? Point to the column and the row.

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • The typical mistake: swapping letter and number ('4A' instead of A4). The memory trick from class: 'eerst de letter, dan het cijfer' (first the letter, then the number). In more than one square? Name them all.
  • Two-finger trick: one index finger on the letter, the other on the number. Slide them together until they bump: that is the square.
Answers for the parent: 1: where column C and row 3 cross · 2: B1 (D1, C1, B1) · 3: D1 (row 3 → row 1, column C → column D) · 4: own drawing: check that the letter comes first.
