Klokkijken op de minuut

Zo coacht u: het stappenplan 'klokkijken op de minuut' van school

Uw kind leerde vandaag een klok met wijzers op de minuut aflezen. Elk cijfer is 5 minuten en elk streepje is 1 minuut. Staat de korte wijzer tussen de 8 en de 9 en de lange wijzer 2 streepjes vóór de 6, dan is het 2 voor half 9. Bij 'voor half', 'over half' en 'voor' noemt het kind het volgende uur.

  • Laat uw kind vertellen. U luistert en vraagt door.
  • Vraag, maar zeg het antwoord niet voor. Ook niet als u het weet.
  • Prijs de aanpak, niet alleen het antwoord.
  1. Korte wijzer (uur): tussen welke twee cijfers?

  2. Lange wijzer (minuten): over, voor half, over half of voor?

  1. Hoe laat is het? De korte wijzer staat tussen de 4 en 5. De lange wijzer staat 8 streepjes voorbij de 12.Vraag: teken de klok. Welk woord hoort bij de lange wijzer, en hoeveel streepjes tel je?
  2. Hoe laat is het? De korte wijzer staat tussen de 5 en 6. De lange wijzer staat 5 streepjes voor de 6.Vraag: staat de lange wijzer vóór of voorbij de 6? Welk uur noem je dan?
  3. Teken een klok en zet de wijzers op 6 voor 3. Tussen welke cijfers staat de korte wijzer? Waar staat de lange wijzer?Vraag: is het al 3 uur, of bijna? Waar staat de korte wijzer dan? En de lange wijzer?
  4. Uit het dagelijks leven: de bus komt om 9 over half 8. Teken de klok met de twee wijzers erop. Tussen welke cijfers staat de korte wijzer? Waar staat de lange wijzer?Vraag: wat zegt het woord 'over half' over de lange wijzer? Hoeveel streepjes tel je?

Tip van de juf

  • Dé fout van vandaag: het verkeerde uur noemen, of 'voor half' en 'over half' door elkaar halen. Na de 6 is het al half, en dan noem je het volgende uur: 7:34 is 4 over half 8. Laat uw kind steeds eerst zeggen waar de korte wijzer staat.
  • Een ezelsbrug uit de klas: 'mi-nu-ten' is een lang woord, dus de lange wijzer. 'Uur' is kort, dus de korte wijzer.

Telling the time to the minute

How you coach: the school's plan 'Telling the time to the minute'

Today your child learned to read a clock with hands to the minute. Each number is 5 minutes and each small mark (streepje) is 1 minute. In Dutch you say the time in a special way: over = past, voor = to, and half 9 = half past 8 (8:30). So when the short hand is between the 8 and the 9 and the long hand is 2 marks before the 6, it is 2 voor half 9 (2 minutes before 8:30, so 8:28). With voor half, over half and voor your child names the next hour.

  • Let your child explain. You listen and ask more.
  • Ask, but do not give the answer. Not even if you know it.
  • Praise the method, not just the answer.

  4. From daily life: the bus comes at 9 over half 8 (9 minutes past half past 7). Draw the clock with both hands. Between which numbers is the short hand? Where is the long hand?Ask: what does the word 'over half' say about the long hand? How many marks do you count?

How did it go?

Tip from the teacher

  • The typical mistake: naming the wrong hour, or mixing up 'voor half' and 'over half'. After the 6 it is already 'half', and then you name the next hour: 7:34 is 4 over half 8. Let your child always say first where the short hand is.
  • A memory trick from class: 'mi-nu-ten' (minutes) is a long word, so the long hand. 'Uur' (hour) is short, so the short hand.
